Also known as Japanese green tea or mocha, matcha tea is now enjoyed around the world. These are powdered green tea leaves with different properties and a unique taste.

The origin of matcha

Matcha originates from imperial China of the Sui dynasty. It was the use of a highly prized and finely crafted leaf that was consumed in the traditional tea ceremony.

The leaves were steamed and pressed into special “bricks” for storage and trade. Now they are dried and subsequently reduced to a very fine powder.

The tradition also became part of the Buddhist chan ritual which included the use of these leaves in the tea ceremony in the etiquette.

Today matcha is also highly appreciated in Europe for its simplicity and positive contributions; such as stress reduction, antioxidant and cholesterol properties.

Powdered matcha is also perfect for sweet recipes, as an ingredient in cake mixes, muffins, but also tiramisu and cheesecake.
