Turmeric is a plant species within the ginger family. It is a herbaceous plant with an underground shoot, also called yellow saffron. The root bulb has a yellow colour and a spicy, pungent aroma. The ginger (according to Zingiber officinale) is also called imber, evergreen or ginger root. The main shoot of the ginger plant, which is located underground, is suitable for consumption. Ginger has an aromatic smell and the taste is pungent and spicy.
